Student Quote

“When I was in Year 7, a particularly wise older boy told me that the point of school was to teach you how to think. It was pretty deep, and to be honest I never quite understood what he meant, but looking back on my time at school I thought back to that statement, and in a way I now agree with it…The skills that I will use in the future are things like being able to speak in front of groups of people, being able to efficiently summarise and grapple with arguments in any form, being able to use language concisely and precisely. Yes, these skills are incorporated into the HSC, and the School Certificate, at all levels actually. But to me, too often they are seen as the surface and not the substance of learning.” (Hugh Cavill, Old Boy 2006)
